We finally finished Anne Frank, which is good because I was getting a bit tired of hearing about Peter and shelling peas. We also finished Law Day, which I am anxious to hear about. I hope there is an award this time. We learned about letter capitalization and commas for English. On Wednesday we built bridges as social project, which was fun. We wrote diaries on different characters in Anne Frank, and I wrote mine on the cat.

We dissected a chicken wing, which was interesting. We’ve always eaten chicken wings but never examined it, so it was pretty cool to see all the muscles and stuff. We started doing some more English. We did something called exquisite corpses, which is a group project where one person writes 3 lines in poetic form, and then they fold the first 2 lines and then pass it on to the next person. They repeat for however many times they want, and then at the end you have a random poem. It was fun to do.`

Leadership day

On Monday we had Presidents Day, which was good because we had a 3 day weekend. On Tuesday we had Leadership Day, which was not as great as it has been before. The food wasn’t very good. I had this sad turkey sandwich that was pretty bland on what I think was whole grain bread. Everything else was the same, but overall I would give the whole thing a 3/10, but it was still a good experience. We worked on algebra and simplifying different equations. It was pretty confusing but I’m starting to get the hang of it. We are planning to dissect a chicken wing next week, which will be interesting.

This week we had Valentines Day at school and we watched a movie about WW2 and the holocaust. It was called The Book Thief. I would give it a 5/10, because in my opinion the acting could have been better. For math we worked on lines. We learned about complimentary angles and supplementary angles. They were a bit confusing at first but I got the hang of it now. We also dissected a pig fetus, which was pretty interesting. I worked with Sebastian and we unfortunately got a really small pig and a really big tray. so when we tried to tie it to the tray, the leg snapped and ripped open. The rest of the dissection went pretty well, We got to see all the guts and organs. There was also some sort of unknown liquid inside the pig that we had to drain out every once in a while.

This week I got the covid booster shot, which got me sick for 3 days, so I missed a lot.

We worked on a slideshow on WW2 on Monday, which a quiz was made about. We each had to make one slide and Mr. Chris put it in one big slideshow. On Friday we read some more Diary of A Young Girl, took the class quiz, and did Financial Friday.

Snow day

My favorite part of the week was when we had a snow day. This was my favorite because we got a break from school and were able to have a break. It would have been even better if the snow lasted for the rest of the week, but it was good to get back to learning too.

The hardest part of the week was math. This was hard because we were working on a new thing and it took me a while to understand, but I eventually got it. I’m going to try to make it better next week by taking notes during class.

The part I’m most excited to keep working on is my story. I’m excited because I have a good idea for it.

I also got my test results for St. Ignatius back. I didn’t get in but I got on the waiting list, which is good enough for me. My scores weren’t the best, but they were a bit above average, so that was good too.

Blog

We learned a lot of math this week. We learned about absolute value, square root, math terms, (such as sum which is addition, difference which is subtraction, product which is multiplication, and quotient which is division.) and` we also worked on fractions as well.

We have been reading My Name Is Not Easy, which has been getting better lately, and we have also been doing reading comprehension on it too. We have been reading The Week Junior, which we also have been doing reading comprehension for.

We learned about atoms and elements. There are protons, which have a positive charge, electrons, which have a negative charge, and neutrons, which have no charge. Protons and neutrons clump together while electrons spin around the clump very very fast. They make what is called a nucleus. We also learned about how different elements have different reactions with one another. If you drop a chunk of potassium in water then it would quite literally burst in flames and explode.

That’s all for this week.

Test week

We had the HSPT tests this week. I did okay on 3 out of 4 tests. I got a 65 on language, 70 on reading, and 85 on vocab. These scores aren’t the best, but they are decent. Then there’s math. I did horrible on the math. I knew maybe 5 things on the math. I got a total of 25% on the math. Not too great.

Anyways we did a science experiment with batteries, salt, wires with alligator clips, and pencils. We took a beaker and filled it with water. Then we took the salt and poured in into the beaker with the water. We mixed it a bit and once it was ready we took the wires and clipped them to the battery. Then we clipped the other ends of the wire to the pencils, and dipped the pencils in the salt water. The pencils started sizzling and making bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen. It was pretty cool. We also learned that if you put potassium in water it lights on fire and explodes like a mini firework.

That’s all for this week.

This week we read some more “My Name Is Not Easy” which in my opinion is better than the alchemist. Instead of selling crystals, they’re skinning dead moose. It is significantly better.

We learned about animals and evolution. The types of classification and stuff like that. We also worked on our Alchemist Draft, which took me a painfully long time. It took me like almost 2 hrs straight to write it. For a second project I’m making a slide show which is taking quite a bit as well

We had a half day on Wednesday which was nice. We are finishing up on our art series. We also did music appreciation, which is basically where we just take a music term and play a song or something that represents it.

That’s all for this week
